In April 1983, Folk Alternativ e.V. celebrated its fifth anniversary with a festival at Haus der Jugend in Osnabrück, Germany. Organized together with Musikagentur Dieter Nentwig, the event featured performances by Wild Geese (Ireland), Silly Wizard (Scotland), Emilio Cao & Friends (Galicia), and John Molineux (Brittany).
Virtually all of the text on the A1 poster is set on an angle. The blackletter typeface chosen for the title may communicate “folk”, but unlike with the framing border, there’s nothing Celtic about it: Moderne Schwabacher is a display bastarda with compact extenders that originated at the Weisert foundry in Stuttgart about 1900.
The bold condensed modern face is the schmalfett style of Bodoni-Antiqua. Devised by Edmund Thiele for Haas, it was available from Berthold Fototype at the time. The lineup is set in a Berthold original: it’s Günter Gerhard Lange’s Concorde, used in its Medium and Regular weights. The information inside the white band features Helvetica halbfett and fett.
