1963 Car Ferry Services by British Railways

“It’s all so easy by modern ‘drive-on, drive-off’ car ferry” says the introduction to the 1963 British Railways Continental and Channel Island car ferry booklet. A reminder of both pre-Channel Tunnel days as well as when the Railways was one of the biggest shipping and ferry owners operating in British waters. This substantial booklet gives information as services, times and destinations as well as the customs and insurance requirements for taking your vehicles, and yourselves, "abroad".
The services shown were operated by both Eastern Region, from Harwich to Hook of Holland, and the Southern Region’s various services from Dover, Newhaven, Southampton and Weymouth. The cover is unattributed but is similar to other issues at the time and owes something to some of the Lander covers to these booklets. It uses the old UK road signs black and white striped post to good effect.
